The Centers for Disease Control CDC could soon change its indoor masking guidelines. stanley termosy The expectation is that the focus will shift from transmission levels to the number of people hospitalized and dying of COVID-19. The numbers are still showing that we have a very high level of transmission going on in our communities, said Dr. Keri Althoff, an epidemiologist with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. However, it has come down substantially since the omicron peak in the middle of January. Dr. Althoff says with close to 65 percent of Americans now fully vaccinated, the threat of COVID-19 is becoming less severe. However, she says its important to wear a mask when around people who are still vulnerable. Children under five are still not eligible for the vaccine, Dr. Althoff said.
